Implant Supported Hybrid dentures are one of the best options to replace missing natural dentition. It is centered around the idea of using minimum number of implants to replace a full set of dentition. As opposed to the general idea that more implants are better, the idea here is that a “good” number of implants placed precisely are better than multiple implants placed randomly.

This is also called as “teeth-in-a-day”, “all-on-four”, “all-on-six” or a “hybrid denture”. In technical terms, we call this a FP3 Implant Supported Bridge which means the bridge (or prosthesis) replaced both teeth and the gums.

This is a relatively advanced procedure that is performed only by a few dental offices in Canada as requires very high precision and placing of angled implants to increase the distance between the implants to distribute forces more evenly.

You will walk out of the office with a full set of temporary teeth so you will never be without teeth. The temporary prosthesis will allow healing of the bone and the gums and also allow you and our team to test drive the bite, fit, shade, speech, etc. We will switch over the temporary in 3-6 months to the permanent one which should last you a long time if you maintain it.

Dr. Novin has been performing this procedure since 2016 successfully and is specially trained in this.

Process:

  1. Pre-surgical assessment:
    1. Clinical examination and consultation with one of our dentists.
    2. Records: 3D scans, impressions and photos.
  2. Pre-prosthetic Phase:
    1. You will meet with either one of our dentists or denturists who will determine the best option for your temporary prosthesis.
  3. Surgical Phase:
    1. Extracting any existing teeth that are determined to be remove and smoothening of bone to create an even surface for the implants in the basal bone.
    2. Installation of 4-8 implants as per the pre-determined plan.
    3. Installation of temporary prosthetic parts.
    4. Installation and adaptation of the temporary denture to the implants to become fixed.
  4. Recovery Phase:
    1. Radiographs, examinations and adjustments as necessary over the next 3-6 months to ensure properly healing.
  5. Prosthetic Phase:
    1. Replacing temporary bridge with a permanent metal reinforced or zirconia based bridge that will last a very long time.

Advantages:

  • Applicable to most cases even when previous implants have failed and there is very limited bone remaining.
  • Gives you teeth in a day with minimal preparation time.
  • Surgery time is reduced when used with surgical guides and a multi-disciplinary team.
  • You can do both top and bottom at the same time predictably.
  • Less expensive than sectional bridges.
  • Highly aesthetic and functional.

Disadvantages:

  • Loss of one of the implants will compromise the whole case.
  • Requires extensive planning.
  • Has to be designed well to allow proper oral hygiene.
  • Requires more maintenance.
  • Flossing and/or powered is necessary to keep the implants clean.

Maintenance

  • You will need to come to the office at least once to twice a year to have a cleaning done by the dentist – we will open the screws, inspect them and the other parts to make sure everything is working fine. Clean the bridge and put everything back together.
