Reshaping and Recontouring Gums or the gingiva is carried out to cosmetically correct what we call a “gummy smile”. This simple procedure can dramatically improve a patient’s smile through conservative methods without even touching or modifying the teeth in any way.

Technically, it is called gingivectomy and it involves surgically and minimally removing the excess gum to reshape and recontour it to enhance the smile. Recovery from the procedure is rapid and typically within the first week patients are back to normal.

Reshaping Gums

Gum reshaping and sculpting is sometimes carried out in conjunction with veneers or laminates and bonding and/or orthodontics to create a perfect smile.
